Abstract

The article examines the peculiarities of the position of the current political leadership of the USSR in the spring of 1967, in the minds of the growing international crisis, and the close positioning of Soviet diplomacy to the main regional leaders. Egypt and Israel to reconcile the US position. It is emphasized that in the complex and super-sensitive situation that developed at the close convergence, the USSR was not only in the camp of the “imperialists”, but also following the crossover of the field typical sentiments of the “new” Arab friends. In this context, the important fact is that Moscow still has many moments, wanting and supporting the Arab countries in their conflict with Israel, which is (as indicated in diplomatic documents) “in the fairway of imperialist and politicians,” however, she did not hesitate to bring the similar situation to critical boundaries. It has been established that the Six Days War, or more precisely its results, became an incentive for the main political actors to seek compromise solutions to the regulatory situation in the region. The most significant successors were the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty (1979) and a similar agreement with Jordan, signed in 1994. The author also emphasizes that the USSR’s far-reaching and close policy in the 50s and 80s of the last century gave special respect to the relations with the two Arab powers in the region of close proximity – Egypt and Syria, supporting their relations with Israel. At the same time, the tactical-diplomatic accents of the US and USSR were created under the watch of O. Kosigin and L. Johnson in Glassboro on 23-25 June 1967. This summit brought about a period of time between the last round of resistance in the region. For the United States, victory over Israel meant both diplomatic and image disadvantages. At the Middle East, there was an unprecedented rise in anti-American sentiment. Together with Egypt, Syria and Jordan, conservative Arab regimes emerged. Over the years, the compromise position of the USSR and the USA was reflected in the UN Security Councilʼs peacekeeping resolution № 242.
