THE SIX-DAY ARAB-ISRAELI WAR: DIPLOMATIC ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE THE CONFLICT

Abstract

The study analyzes the role of diplomatic services in resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict. After all, despite numerous long-term attempts to resolve the Arab-Israeli confrontation from the middle of the twentieth century to the present day, it remains the core of the Middle East conflict, so the question of clarifying any attempts to resolve it, including through diplomatic peaceful means, is appropriate. This work is an attempt to explore ways and methods of resolving military conflicts by the UN Security Council. After all, the six-day war ended after the entry into force of the UN resolution on the ceasefire. It was fleeting and lasted less than a week, but during this time it completely changed the map of the Middle East and led to prolonged geopolitical friction between the parties. The relevance of the chosen topic is also determined by the fact that the Arab-Israeli conflict for many decades remained and remains one of the most explosive among the Middle Eastern hot spots, the escalation of events around which can at any time lead to a new war, as well as significantly affect the system of international relations. The practical significance of this issue is also connected with the Russian-Ukrainian war in the XXI century – finding out the positive experience of resolving military conflicts at the interstate level and the role of the UN should prevent their further escalation. The purpose of the article is to analyze diplomatic attempts in resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict in the twentieth century. The methodological basis is a comparative-historical approach, involving a set of cognitive means, procedures that allow you to identify the similarities and differences between the phenomena being studied. Scientific novelty lies in the comprehensive analysis and synthesis of the latest publications and open sources, which made it possible to move away from the unilateral either “Egyptian” or “Israeli” view of this conflict and to compare the positions and views of diplomats of the belligerents.
