AWAITING FILM PRODUCTION IN VOLYN: FROM THEATER COSTUME TO COSTUME FILM
Abstract
Volyn is predetermined for successful film production: the region has attractive locations for filmmakers, an outstanding Volyn writer, Honored Journalist of Ukraine Ivan Korsak has produced significant literary material for screenplays, and the local authorities have established a film commission. There is big business in Volyn, patrons and artists who intend to develop the film industry. There are business representatives in Volyn, who intend to develop the film industry in the region. The Odessa Film Studio and the Volyn Regional State Administration are the main interested sides in this issue, which became obvious during the pre-premiere screening of the film “Why I’m Alive” in Lutsk. If film production appears in the region, then at the same time there will be an urgent need for specialists involved in the preparation and shooting of films, technical staff and the masses. The purpose of our study is to analyze the sociocultural potential of Volyn in the context of creating the artistic environment providing future film production by local specialists. The phenomenon of costume in the art of cinema involves its variable perception in philosophy, culture study, aesthetics, art, hermeneutics, theater, ethnography, etc. Viewers comprehend the inner world of the main character, his/ her search for sense in life, his/her attitudes and relations by contemplating their costumes. In 2021, the legal entity “The Family and Home Newspaper and The People’s Tribune Newspaper Office”, founded by journalist, publisher and writer Ivan Korsak, received a grant from the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation to create a screenplay for the feature-length costume film “The Secret of Hannah Barvinok”. The genre is a historical dramatic thriller based on Ivan Korsak’s novel “The Ring of Hannah Barvinok”. Taking into account the extremely small number of production of children’s films by modern Ukrainian cinematography (single films), as well as taking into account our own experience of scientific work in the specialty “Audiovisual art and production”, we express our hope for a screen adaptation of the book with an educational purpose among not only teenage viewers, as well as the general adult audience.
